tearing specimens of electronic tensile testing machine

Tear strength refers to the force required to tear a thin specimen and is a term used in a test method for determining the tear resistance of a film or sheet. The tear test is to stretch the sample cut with the specified crack on the tensile testing machine to determine the tear strength value of the material. The tear strength value is generally related to the shape of the sample, the tensile speed, and the test temperature. The following is an introduction to the tear test of the electronic tensile testing machine for various shapes of samples.

Tensile tear test for right-angle specimens without slits:

The uncut square test includes tear initiation and tear propagation. During the tensile tear test, the stress at the right-angle point rises until tearing occurs, and as the beam of the tensile testing machine continues to move, the stress at the right-angle point further increases until the specimen tears. In this way, the total force required for the failure of the specimen can be tested, which cannot be decomposed into the two components of tear and tear propagation.

Tensile tear test for crescent-shaped specimens:

Crescent tear test specimen is to cut the specimen in advance and measure the force required for the specimen to expand and tear. Cutting, measuring and testing of crescent-shaped specimens shall be performed continuously. When the test cannot be carried out continuously, the sample should be stored under the specified test conditions until the test can be carried out. The interval between cutting the specimen and conducting the test shall not exceed 24 hours. If the aging test is to be carried out, the notches and cuts of the specimen shall be carried out after aging. The tensile tear test specimen should be cut from a test piece with uniform thickness, the thickness of the test piece is (2±0.2) mm, and the test piece can be made by molding or by cutting or grinding the product.

Tensile tear test for trousers-shape specimen:

Compared to other specimens that require strict control of the slit of the tear specimen, the trouser-shaped specimen is not sensitive to the length of the slit. Moreover, the results obtained from the tear test of the trouser-shaped specimen are more likely to be related to the basic tearing ability of the material, and less affected by the tensile stress, and the tear propagation speed is directly related to the tensile speed of the clamp.

Tensile tear test for cut right-angle specimens:

The right-angle tear specimen with a slit is to pre-cut the specimen and test the force required for the specimen to expand and tear. It should be noted that the direction of the tearing notch should be consistent with the rolling direction. Because the expansion speed of the sample is related to the cutting method and calendering direction of the sample, but has no direct relationship with the tensile speed.
